How working days are calculated
Working days = calendar days in the period, minus scheduled weekend days, minus official public holidays that fall on days that would otherwise be worked. A holiday that already falls on a weekend day isn't subtracted twice.
UAE weekend patterns vary by workplace
Federal and semi-government offices generally operate Monday–Friday (Saturday–Sunday weekend). Sharjah government entities operate Monday–Thursday. Private-company weekends vary — some close only on Sunday, others on Saturday and Sunday. Always use the pattern that applies to your specific organisation, not a generic default.
2026 UAE public holidays
Per Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024: New Year's Day (1 January), Eid Al Fitr (3 days), Arafah Day, Eid Al Adha (3 days), Islamic New Year, the Prophet's Birthday, and National Day (2–3 December). Except for Eid holidays, most public holidays may be transferred by Cabinet decision to the start or end of the week — check for any transfer announcement close to the date.
